A case study in the art and craft of bespoke illumination

Lighting sets the scene for any interior. So, if you can combine ancient wisdom with contemporary technology, chances are you’re going to end up with something special, and this is exactly the case with ADesignStudio’s Crackle Wall Light – a case study in the art and craft of bespoke, artistic illumination.

The award-winning lighting design and manufacturing practice has created an exquisite collection of handblown crackle glass lights – perfect for any home of distinction.

Each piece is a work of art in itself, crafting a mesmerising glow of sparkling, spectacular light patterns that enliven any space.

The Crackle Wall Light, in particular, adds an element of drama and intrigue wherever it is installed.

Its gently curved form allows the crackle glass fitting to project light back onto the wall, creating shard-like reflections that captivate the eye.

These uniquely radiating motifs transform each light into a true work of art, defining interior spaces with their sculptural elegance and expressive, dappled hues.

Each piece offers an organic texture, ensuring that no two Crackle Wall Lights are identical, regardless of their size.

ADesignStudio has revolutionised the traditional glassblowing technique, infusing it with a contemporary twist to create crackled glass that perfectly complements modern living environments.

The cracked appearance of the glass poetically balances the strength and delicacy of handblown craftsmanship, enhancing the meticulous control of light distribution.

This results in a discreetly concealed light source that still radiates a rich, ambient glow.

By incorporating the latest LED technology, ADesignStudio has managed to hide the lamp inside the fitting while allowing the light to permeate through the crackle glass. This produces a refined diffusion of light, echoing the warm, traditional charm of a flame lamp.

ADesignStudio is continually exploring the dynamic interplay between illumination and materiality, blending diffused light’s scene-setting ability with spatial design.

Founder and creative director Alex Fitzpatrick and his team push the boundaries of both decorative and technical elements in their lighting designs, resulting in an unparalleled exhibition of innovation and elegance.

Recently, the Crackle Wall Light ensemble was expanded to include larger sizes and two new coloured glass tints: tea and olive.

Crafting these larger pieces by hand demands a special level of dedication and rigour, ensuring that every Crackle Wall Light is a testament to the studio’s commitment to excellence.
