Light, texture and variation
In the mid 1990s, Ambitec began investigating alternative wall finish systems capable of
working with light rather than concealing it. Textured plaster finishes used in Europe
provided a reference point – finishes that embraced light rather than fought it, and celebrated
imperfections rather than hiding them.
Inspiration came from Venetian plaster in the chapels of Italy, the colourful Tadelakt baths of
Morocco, the whitewashed lime walls of Greece, and the clay adobe houses of Africa. Each of these materials informed the surface finishes that are so popular in aspirational interiors today.
Through its iterative development and feedback from the design industry, a new polished
plaster system was created: Ambitec Suave. This premium finish embraces light and established a new material language for the interior landscape, now manufactured in New Zealand.
The Suave range of polished plaster has a contemporary minimal finish with natural depth
in colour and movement. Suave is available in single and two-tone colours and in 6 different
texture patterns. Suave finishes vary from silky smooth to heavily distressed, low sheen to
high gloss, natural white to beautiful black. This contemporary polished plaster is ideal for
both residential and commercial interior surfaces.
Suave is a specialist surface finish suitable for the coating of all absorbent and prepared
indoor surfaces such as plasterboard, concrete, brickwork, block work or bonding plaster
that are not in direct contact with water. An optional final surface sealer ensures the Suave
specialist finish is water and stain repellent.
The intention is to celebrate the beauty of natural variation and see imperfection as a
feature, not a flaw.
