Modern freestanding fireplaces

Modern freestanding fireplaces

Designed specifically for the way New Zealanders live today, the range reflects a shift toward cleaner aesthetics, higher performance and seamless integration into modern architectural spaces.

As James Fisher, Chief Product Officer at Escea Fireplaces, explains: “We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how a wood fire performs and looks in modern New Zealand homes. They’re warmer, more airtight, and more considered — which changes what people need from a fire. Add in local air standards and it’s really shaped how we’ve designed ours. For us, it was important that nothing had to be compromised.”

This philosophy underpins the entire TFS Series. From the compact TFS650 to the expansive TFS1000, each model reinterprets the traditional wood fire for contemporary living. Clean lines, generous viewing windows and a focus on performance define the range, creating fireplaces that are as refined as they are effective.

The latest addition, the TFS850, builds on these principles while introducing greater balance within the series. Positioned between the smaller and larger models, it broadens the range to suit a wider variety of homes.

Across the TFS Series, design plays a central role. Each fireplace is conceived as a freestanding statement piece, with minimalist detailing and refined proportions that complement modern interiors. Rather than dominating a space, the restrained form allows the flame to become the focal point.

Performance is equally important. At the core of the range is Escea’s Direct Vent Technology, developed over two decades. By drawing combustion air from outside the home and expelling exhaust air externally, the system operates independently of the indoor environment. This delivers more efficient heating, improved heat retention, and eliminates cold draughts — a significant advantage in today’s well-insulated homes.

The TFS850 exemplifies how these principles come together in practice. Its proportions are designed for open-plan living, offering a presence that feels substantial yet adaptable. It delivers the warmth needed for larger family spaces while maintaining the clean, architectural aesthetic that defines the series, filling a natural gap within the range.

Like all models in the Escea wood fireplace range, the TFS850 meets New Zealand Clean Air requirements. Alongside the TFS650, it is also ULEB-approved, making both models suitable for ultra-low emission zones. This ensures the range aligns with increasingly stringent environmental standards without compromising the experience and ambience of a traditional wood fire.

Ultimately, the Escea TFS Series reflects the evolution of both fireplaces and the homes they inhabit. As living spaces become more connected, design-led, and performance-driven, demand has grown for heating solutions that can do more.

With the introduction of the TFS850, the range becomes more complete, offering a cohesive suite of freestanding wood fireplaces that deliver design, efficiency, and the enduring appeal of flame.
