Sustainable zero-silica Prime Stone

Sustainable zero-silica Prime Stone

New Zealand Panels Group has expanded its Prime Stone benchtop range with the introduction of two new colours, responding to growing demand for surfaces that balance design appeal with improved material safety.

The additions, Ohakune and Statuario Venato, bring the total Prime Stone collection to 26 designs.
Both reflect the brand’s focus on refined aesthetics inspired by European marble and natural stone, while remaining accessible for a wide range of residential projects.

Prime Stone is a composite stone and a durable surface that delivers the look of natural stone with added consistency and practicality. The range has gained traction among designers and homeowners for its ability to achieve a high-end finish without the cost often associated with imported marble or stone.

A key development across the range is the company’s transition toward zero silica products. New Zealand Panels Group is progressively moving from low silica to zero silica options, aligning with evolving safety expectations in the industry.

Prime Stone now includes both low silica and zero silica options, placing it within the same range as granite and offering a safer alternative to traditional engineered stone.

The new Ohakune design is a zero-silica surface that features bold grey veining across a crisp white base. Its flowing pattern makes it adaptable across a variety of interior styles, from contemporary kitchens to more classic spaces. The contrast in the veining adds visual movement while maintaining a clean and versatile palette.”

Statuario Venato returns to the range following strong demand from the market. Previously removed from the collection, the design has been reintroduced as a low silica option. Known for its balanced and refined appearance, it offers a softer interpretation of marble veining. It pairs well with timber cabinetry, brushed metals, and minimalist interiors, making it a flexible choice for modern homes.

Beyond aesthetics, Prime Stone offers practical advantages that appeal to both builders and homeowners. The material is non-porous, making it resistant to staining and easy to maintain. Its engineered composition ensures consistency across slabs, which supports seamless installation in larger kitchen or bathroom applications.

However, as with all stone products, some variation between batches is expected due to the manufacturing process. Samples are intended as a guide rather than an exact match. Designers and clients are encouraged to view full slabs prior to fabrication to ensure satisfaction with the final selection.

The company also advises care when using designs that feature digital printing. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may result in some fading over time, so placement and design considerations remain important.

Larger samples of the new designs are now available to view at the NZ Panels Group showroom at the Residium Design Centre in Auckland, as well as at the Home Ideas Centre in Christchurch.

With the addition of Ohakune and the return of Statuario Venato, the Prime Stone range continues to evolve, offering style, performance, and improved safety that reflects the changing priorities of the New Zealand building and design industry.
