The timeless power of tiles
Tiles have long been an effective way to transform a home. Whether used to introduce a bold design statement or a subtle layer of organic texture, they can dramatically refresh a space without needing a complete rebuild.
Ceramic artist and co-owner of Timeless Tiles, Elise Johnston, says nature-led colour stories are defining today’s interiors. “Warm earthy tones continue to shape modern interiors, pairing beautifully with natural wood accents and timeless travertine looks.
“Rich autumnal hues, including chocolate, linen, rust, and clay tones, are emerging strongly, alongside soft greens that bring a calm, organic feel to the home.”
She says the overall look is layered and inviting. One key focus is creating spaces that are refined and sophisticated yet still feel relaxed and comfortable.
There’s still room for drama within this palette. The look remains flexible with a wide scope for variation and impact. “Designs are increasingly combining a neutral base tile with a feature tile to introduce texture, depth, and visual interest without overwhelming the space.”
Homeowners aren’t shying away from more expressive choices. Bold elements rife with personality still find their way in our homes. Think dramatic sizes, statement mosaics, textured finishes and richer colours.
“Current favourites in the showroom include our Terranova Cosmic White and Prestige White Natural ranges, both available in a selection of large-format sizes and coordinating textured décor options.
“We are seeing these paired with smaller feature tiles, such as our Suki Red 48x48mm mosaics, the eye-catching Kit Kat Caramello finger mosaics and natural tumbled travertine stone 100x100mm mosaics to add warmth, texture, and visual interest.”
Part of the appeal of this colour scheme is its versatility. Whether paired with timber flooring, stone surfaces or more traditional finishes, earthen tones offer comfort and that cool sense of longevity.
“We are seeing many homeowners embrace warmer tones to complement existing timber and natural stone elements as they renovate and refresh older homes,” Elise says.
“There is also a growing desire for homes to feel personal and restorative, with warm, earthy palettes bringing a sense of softness and wellbeing to everyday spaces.”
